Free sermons and illustration databases designed especially for Evangelical Christian workers |
A key strength of the Kerux system is the ability to add new material and update existing material. Every year literally thousands of sermons and illustrations are affected. There have also been a series of improvements to the database forms. To benefit from this, you must learn how to use the Update feature.
First, return to the Search Screen. In the lower left corner is a red "Update Database" button. Click it, and the pop-up box (on bottom) appears. Browse to find the file you want to use as an update. (Make sure it is "unzipped" first since almost all my update files are compressed.)
When you have selected an update file, click OPEN and the update will happen automatically. If the update is adding large numbers of records it can take a very long time to process, so be patient. You might even have to walk away from your computer for a while... but the update will work.
One thing to be careful of -- if you have a new database collection and update with an old file, you end up with a "reverse update." You don't want that! Always check the date of the update file. It is also a good idea to open an update file in Access and look at the date stamps on the records. The illustrations each are stamped for the date they were added to the database, as well as the last time the illustration was modified, and even when the Bible abbreviations were modified. The sermons have similar date stamps.
